Green Power

What adds to great web hosting?

Location

Kelowna is a natural safe haven from Mother Nature's wrath. Kelowna is 240 miles (400 km) east of the ocean, 1000 ft (280 Metres) above sea level, and surrounded by mountains. This eliminates tornadoes, floods, tsunami's, hurricanes, and all other acts of nature. Kelowna is not on the fault line or in any earthquake zones. Kelowna is a medium sized community of about 160,000 people - including the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus, international airport, and all the accommodation needs necessary for a Disaster Recovery Hotsite.

Power

All power to our data centers are filtered and conditioned by redundant UPS systems. These UPS systems also carry the data center's power load during any transition between two primary hydroelectric utility feeds and/or switch over to emergency diesel generators. Hydro is the most 'Green' choice for electricity. It is also one of very few data centers that has access to separate substations.

Carriers

In Kelowna, Spif is connected to both Bell Canada and Shaw fiber networks that are peered with the major U.S. carriers. Upstream connections have 1Gbps or greater capacity. Spif has leading edge DDoS protection to help protect your network from slow down or complete failure, when other sites on the network are attacked, like you would see with an unprotected provider. Spif.ca guarantees a network uptime of 99.9% but consistently operates at a much higher level than this.
